14-Year Old Girl Married Off As 2nd Wife Rescued From Forced Marriage In Lagos

Husband of the girl, Bashiru Yaya
A 14-year old girl from Niger Republic has been rescued after she was forcefully married to a Bureau de Change operator in Yaba area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

The girl (name withheld) was forcefully married to 25-year old Bashiru Yaya also from Niger Republic on 29 December, 2013 while the girl was still in Senior Secondary I at Ansarudden Academy at Randle area of Surulere.

She was married out to be the second wife of Yaya despite the fact that she is a minor and had the ambition of becoming a medical doctor.

Under age marriage contravenes the Lagos State Child Rights Law.

The girl’s parents, Mr Hamidu and Mrs Abibat Ahmed were said to have taken the girl away from school while in SS I and married her out to Yaya after he allegedly paid 300,000 Cefas, which is equivalent to N100,000 to them.

Officials of the Office of Youth and Social Development, Lagos State Government, got wind of it after the girl managed to smuggle a written letter to the office narrating  how she was forced into marriage and her willingness to go back to school.

The government officials went to her house at 57, Little Road, Yaba, to rescue her and later arrested Yaya and the girl’s parents.

The girl was taken into custody of the state government and her  husband was detained temporarily at the Taskforce office, Alausa before they were released later.

In the handwritten letter of the girl, she made it known that she was never interested in the marriage, but that it was her mother, Abibat who spearheaded the whole arrangement against her wish.

“I was in SS I when I was forced into marriage, a marriage I never wanted and I am 14-years old. Never in my life have I thought of marriage when I was in school, although my father never accepted this marriage. It was my mum.

“My dad wanted me to become someone in life for me to be able to help the family the way he is doing. Before this entire marriage proposal started, they asked my dad about it but he said he did not want to give out his daughter in marriage until she finished schooling.

“The marriage took place on 29 December, 2013. I never loved the man and my mum knew about this all along but she refused and I am the man’s second wife,” she explained in her letter.

According to her, when she was in school, somebody closed to her introduced her to the Social Welfare Department of the Office of Youth and Social Development, which came to her rescue.

“I knew I should have found solution to this at the beginning, I thought of running away but I asked myself, would running away solve this?” she said, saying she decided not to run away but to look for other solution.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Social Development, Dr Dolapo Badru said the girl had the ambition of becoming a medical doctor before they married her out to a man who already had a wife.

“They stopped her from going to school and she sneaked out and we were able to rescue her. When we brought them here to my office, we asked the mother questions and she could not say anything. The girl implicated the mother in her petition. Her husband has disvirgined her,” he said.

Badru said the Child Rights law of the state government is against minor being married out and that such act attract punishment according to the law, saying that government would ensure that the future of the girl is secure.
It was gathered that the girl said while she did not want to remain in the marriage and wanted to go to school, she did not want any of her family members jailed by the police over the issue.

As they were taken to the taskforce office, the little girl, thinking that they wanted to detain her parents was said to have changed her story, saying that she loved Yaya and wanted the marriage, only that she wanted to complete her education first contrary to the letter she wrote.

Court orders Financial Reporting Council to stop investigating Sanusi

Justice J. T. Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Lagos, today April 4th ordered the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) to stop any further investigations it is currently carrying out on the suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido.

The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria had leveled allegations of financial recklessness and abuse of office on Sanusi and recommended his suspension which was effected on February 20.

The council in its presentation to the president said they found Mr Sanusi's report on the audited financial statement of the CBN for the year ended Dec. 2012 and other related issues unsatisfactory.

Upon his Suspension, Mr Sanusi was invited to a panel set up by the council at Elephant House Ikeja Lagos for questioning on March 27th but failed to turn up. Reports say Sanusi felt the panel was bias and was set out to rubbish his person. He filed a suit that same day asking the court to stop the FRCN from investigating him as it lacked the constitutional power to investigate him. His request was granted by a judge today.

Beyonce's little brother headed to a homeless shelter

A month after Beyonce's father had his child support order for his 3 year-old son Nixon slashed from  $12,000 a month to $2,400 a month, his baby mama, Alexandra, says she and the boy are headed to a homeless shelter. Because of the slash, Matthew Knowles won't have make child support payments the next two years after a court ruled that the $12k he paid for the last three years means he's paid in full until nearly 2016.

Now Nixon's mother says Beyonce hasn't lifted a finger to help. Alexsandra tells In Touch Magazine
“I can’t imagine how BeyoncĂ© feels knowing she has a homeless brother. I know if I were in the same position, I would reach out. Maybe she is too busy.”
“Nixon deserves to know his family, and I hope one day he will meet his sister"
Why not get a job instead of going to a homeless shelter? There are lots of single mums out there getting things done and giving their kids quality life. So if Beyonce wasn't his step sister, nko?

Orji Kalu Takes A Shot At FG! Sleepy Old Men At The On-Going Conference Can’t Make A Change

A former Abia State governor, Orji Kalu, has described the on-going National Conference in Abuja as a home to old men who do not have the strength to decide the future of the nation. Speaking at the Centenary Lecture organised by the Oyo State branch of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kalu, who delivered a lecture titled, ‘Nigeria: A Nation in Quest of Credible Leadership’, said Nigeria would not move forward unless the first generation leaders withdrew gradually from politics.

He said, “The present crop of leaders seems to be failing the nation and the people are becoming increasingly doubtful if indeed we have leaders. To worsen matters, the first generation leaders are still mostly the ones calling the shots. If you go through the National Conference delegates’ list, you will be amazed by the number of men in their 80s still trying to determine the type of future that is suitable for the millennium generation. What fresh ideas can these sleepy old men offer on the way forward? There can be no credible leadership until these men begin to gradually withdraw and allow the younger generation to take charge.”

Our Male Celebrities Have Become Sex Toys To Senators & Alhajas In High Places- Etcetera Spills

This guy is not even smiling at all, lol. Etcetera in a recent chat with Rose Peters-Graham, has spilled the beans. Etcetera accused Nigerian male celebrities of hopping on planes to Abuja just to search for a senator who would be their next sugar mummy or a highly connected woman they can marry. He also said the women have since turned these men into their sex toys, replacing them at will, week in, week out.

He said a lot to Rose, lol and also wonders why men who are married to female celebrities ignore their wives waywardness even when they know they are sleeping with politicians and other men in power, lol. Read part of the bombshell he dropped after the cut.

 “It is so appalling how some Nigerian men in the entertainment (industry) are becoming enslaved to women because of money. How can a man be so emasculated? Where is our pride?”, Etcetera first narrated. Then he went on to reveal that;

“Each time an entertainer boards a flight to Abuja, you begin to wonder if he’s going for a public event or a private one. Our male celebrities are unashamedly becoming sex toys and pleasure gadgets to female senators and Alhajas. What’s happening to Nigeria men?”

“It is so appalling to hear talks of how a former Senator has so many male celebrities on rotation for her weekly pleasures. Even the supposedly gospel musicians are at the fore front of this ridicule…Also, a man knows that his wife is sleeping with politicians and other societal big wigs for money and he closes his eyes to all the insults. What’s going on?” he queried.

I’m Not Dating K1 Neither Am I Fighting His Babymama- Dayo Amusa

Dayo Amusa has finally addressed the prolonged ‘k1 issue’ after a lot of people have speculated the actress is in a relationship with the fuji star and even desperately trying to get pregnant for him. But Dayo in a new interview with Encomium addressed the issue insisting what exists between them is a father and daughter relationship, and nothing more. Alleging the rumour started in 2011 when K1 played at her movie premiere in Lagos.

Speaking about the role she played when K1 recently gave out three daughters in marriage, she said, she was contacted to take care of entertainers who attended the ceremonies and she does not see a big deal in doing that, knowing K1 is a father figure to her. She also talked about K1’s latest baby mama, Bisola Badmus, insisting they are at peace and there’s no quarrel between them.

Interestingly, when Bisola was contacted if she was quarrelling with Dayo over K1, she said no, and joyfully said she can authoritatively tell us she is the only actress that has a baby for him in the entertainment industry. So here you have it people.

FIFA bans Barcelona from signing players for the next two transfer periods

FIFA today April 2nd banned Spanish football giants FC Barcelona from signing players till summer 2015 over rules breach relating to the international transfer and registration of players under 18.

According to reports, the club was investigated by FIFA for 12 months over their youth recruitment policy. And after FIFA found out that the club had been engaged in illegally recruiting and importing non-Spanish minors over a four year period, the world football governing body handed out the transfer ban and also fined the club £306,000. (450,000 Swiss francs.)

FIFA also fined the Spanish FA £340,000 for allowing Barcelona to embark on a sustained and extended policy of what is viewed as child exploitation by the world governing body. Read FIFA's statement below

'FC Barcelona has been found to be in breach of article 19 of the regulations in the case of 10 minor players and to have committed several other concurrent infringements in the context of other players.
The disciplinary committee regarded the infringements as serious and decided to sanction the club with a transfer ban at both national and international level for two complete and consecutive transfer periods, together with a fine of 450,000 Swiss francs.

'Additionally, the club was granted a period of 90 days in which to regularise the situation of all minor players concerned.'
'The disciplinary committee emphasised that the protection of minors in the context of international transfers is an important social and legal issue that concerns all stakeholders in football.
'The committee highlighted that while international transfers might, in specific cases, be favourable to a young player's sporting career, they are very likely to be contrary to the best interests of the player as a minor.
'Young football players are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse in a foreign country without the proper controls. This particular fact makes the protection of minors in football by the sport's governing bodies, especially by FIFA, even more important.'
FIFA only allows international youth transfers when one of three situations apply: the player's parents have moved country for their own, non-related reasons; the move takes place within the European Union if a player is aged between 16 and 18; or the player's home is less than 50 kilometres from the national border being crossed.
