MERCY AIGBE SAYS SHE CAN BUY A BAG OF #5M IF SHE LIKES IT

I am sure a lot of us read about Toyin Lawani's N550,000 Mongolian hair yesterday here. This morning Punch published an interview of Mercy Aigbe, and she was asked if she could buy a hand bag for N5m. She didn't want to say yes straight away, but she manged to say it when she answered the reporters question. "I love fashion. One thing about fashion is that when you see something you like, if you don’t buy it, you’ll not have peace of mind till you get it, no matter the cost.''.  See the question , her answer below;

Can you buy a handbag for N5m?

I don’t know. I cannot say the amount I can spend on an item. I love fashion. One thing about fashion is that when you see something you like, if you don’t buy it, you’ll not have peace of mind till you get it, no matter the cost. That is the kind of person I am, and that is why I cannot say how much I can spend on an item. Most times when I see things I like and I have the money, I buy. I am working hard and making my money. If it makes me happy, why not get it? We only have a life to live. At the same time, I also know that there are people that I can reach out to and put a smile on their faces. So what I do is find a way to balance both.

I AUCTION MY CLOTHES TO MY FRIENDS BECAUSE I CANT WEAR THEM TWICE-YVONNE VIXEN EKWERE

The Tv presenter told punch the reason why celebrities like her,why she can not wear a cloth twice;

Whenever I am on the Red Carpet and paparazzi takes my pictures, I always say ‘chei! So I will not wear this dress again?’ The pictures will be plastered everywhere including the Internet and magazines. It spoils show for me. It is not that we don’t like wearing a particular dress for more than one event, but we’ll rather not do it.But you will abuse me if I repeat a dress. People would write that we repeated a dress. Because of that, I wear a dress and since I know I will not wear it again, I dash it out. I give my assistant my clothes. I give to family members and friends as well. But then, I auction my clothes to my friends on twitter

FIVE FAMILIES QUALIFY FOR MALTINA DANCE HALL FINALE

The race started on September 1, 2013 with ten families in the picture; however, five families were unable to survive the unique introduction of dance styles from the 1960s to date hence the title, “The Evolution” of dance. The five families that made it to the final stage of the exciting family dance reality show convinced the judges that they are capable of being among the last families that would compete for the prizes.

It was an emotional night at the first eviction showdown as two families - Dosa and Clement families – became the first two families to be evicted from the show. The show, which started airing on September 1, 2013, opened with dance performances from the 60s-70s and 80s-90s. After the first dance performance from the 60s-70s the Dosa and Clement families were put up for possible eviction. The Asiyefia and Ebute families later joined them for possible eviction after the 80s-90s dance performance.

As is the custom in the Maltina Academy, the four families had to perform the two dances from the 60s-70s and 80s-90s in order to put their acts together and convince the judges that they have the capacity of going the extra mile. The eviction showdown started with the Ebute family dancing to the 1978 song Le Freak by Chic; then the Asiyefia performed the 1979 song Ring my bell by Anita Ward; the Clement family did the 1978 song I will survive by Gloria Gaynor and the Dosa family ended the first part of the show with the 1977 hit song Staying Alive by the Bee Gees.

At the second eviction showdown which featured  Our Own dance performance – a dance style that incorporate Nigerian unique dance styles like Alanta, Azonto, Etighi etc – and Wazobia dance styles, the Asiyefia and Enweribe families were put up for possible eviction. The Ekado and Ebute families joined the two families for possible eviction after the Wazobia performance. In the battle to remain in the academy, the four families had to perform the two dance styles to prove to the judges that they still have what it takes to remain in the academy.

The Wazobia dance performance – a dance style that incorporated Nigeria’s indigenous dances - started with the Enweribe family dancing to the Sato dance from Badagry, Lagos State; the Ekado family performed the Uyai dance from Akwa-Ibom while the Ebute and Asiyefia families performed the Sharo dance from Sokoto, Sokoto State.

The judges were impressed with the hard work and effort each family made by fine tuning their various dance routines to prove that they wanted to retain their stay in the Academy. However, one family had to be evicted and after much deliberation the Asiyefia family was asked to leave.

During the third and final eviction showdown, the Ekado and Ebenezer families were evicted in an emotion laden episode which witnessed some of the best and determined dances the show has ever seen. But the judges had to make the decision because there are only five slots for the grand finale. As it stands, the Ebute, Briggs, Ibrahim, Enweribe and Ikumoinein families would battle for the crown of Nigeria’s number one dance family today.

Speaking on the show, Mrs Ngozi Nkwoji, Senior Brand Manager, Maltina, said “evictions are always emotional and the last eviction is the hardest. However, only five families can go through to the Grand Final and only one family amongst the five will win the grand prize. Our judges have done their best in selecting the best five now it’s up to Nigerians to vote for their most favourite family. Every family in the Grand Final has an equal opportunity to win”.

Meanwhile, Nigerians, and not the judges this time around, would determine the wining family through voting which opens on Friday September 20, a day before the grand finale.

MATSE RELEASES STATEMENT AFTER BEEN SACKED FROM NIGERIAN INFO

Some of you may have heard that popular Radio Personality Matse Uwatse Nnoli was fired from her job at radio station, Nigerian Info, two years after moving to the station from Wazobia FM where she worked for many years. There have been reports in the media that Matse was fired because 'she lacked discipline and couldn't be called to order'. Matse says this is totally false and has released a statement.
Dear all, compliments of the day to you.
I believe a lot of you must have heard of the recent termination of my job as an OAP (On Air Personality) on 99.3 Nigeria Info Fm. Well, it is true.
I have read on several blogs that I was sacked for being arrogant, rude etc. Even recently that I lacked discipline. If I lacked discipline, I wouldn't be successful in my career. I believe discipline, integrity and honesty goes hand in hand with true success. Ask those who  have met and known me and they will tell you that this is what I live for. I am not perfect, I have made mistakes but who is perfect?

I prefer to be silent on matters like this but since silence is assumed to be consent, I will not consent to my hard earned reputation being dragged to the gutters. I worked too hard for it.

On the 2nd of September 2013 while on admission at First Consultant Medical Centre, Lagos. I received an email while on my sick bed, announcing my termination. Honestly, I was not angry but a bit shocked. I had been too sick lately due to my pregnancy and was not at my best but I expected my company to be supportive of me. Yes, I wanted them to be supportive of me because I had worked hard over the years to bring them much glory.

I know that I will see all sorts of articles and comments to discredit me but I simply ask this of you all. If you have ever met me and I was unpleasant to you, feel free to vent but If you don't know the real me and all you have heard are insinuations, hold your peace.

I love people and always wish them well. My mentees and honest colleagues will testify to this.I love progress because I believe the sky is  big enough for all the birds to fly. AIM Consultants. I am not mad at you. I believe when one door closes, another one opens. I have served you well over the years, brought you accolades. So please, let me go in peace and insiders in the Organisation who do not like guts should not use it as an opportunity to tear me down. I am a good person and YOU
ALL KNOW THIS!

God bless AIM Consultants, I learnt a lot from you and I am grateful. God bless us all!
Matse Uwatse Nnoli

“It is baffling that people can erect billboards and posters in a city like Abuja in broad day light without being spotted and arrested by security agents”

JAMES IBORI TRIED TO BRIBE ME WITH #2.4 BILLION NAIRA-NUHU RIBADU

It has been revealed that  former Delta State Governor James Ibori tried to bribe anti-corruption boss Nuhu Ribadu in 2007 with $15 million (about N2.4 billion) in cash in a bag so heavy one man alone could not lift it, Ribadu told a London court on Thursday.

Ribadu said he pretended to take the bribe because he wanted the cash as evidence to use against Ibori in a prosecution, but rather than keep the money for himself he had it taken straight to the Central Bank of Nigeria to be kept safe in a vault.

He told the court that about $1 billion flowed from federal government accounts into Delta State coffers during Ibori's eight years in power, and he estimated Ibori had stolen or wasted more than half of that amount.

Ribadu, who was chairman of Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from April 2003 to December 2007, was giving evidence at a confiscation hearing in which prosecutors are seeking court orders to have Ibori's assets seized.

Under Nigeria's constitution, state governors enjoy immunity from prosecution but are limited to two terms in office. With the end of his second term looming in April 2007, Ibori was worried the EFCC were planning to prosecute him, Ribadu said.

"He was very desperate to terminate the investigation," he told the court.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS

In late April 2007, a meeting was arranged between the two men at a "neutral place", the house of Andy Uba, a close associate of outgoing President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Ibori arrived at the house with several members of his staff and a very large black sack containing $15 million in cash. Ribadu said he watched as two of Ibori's men lifted the heavy sack and handed it over to his own EFCC staff. "It was a bag that an individual could not carry alone," he said.

The EFCC men drove the bag to the central bank where the money was counted and boxed into smaller containers. The court was shown photographs of the boxes of cash.
"I have given you money Nuhu, just give me my clearance," Ribadu quoted Ibori as telling him after those events.
Instead, the EFCC continued to investigate Ibori's affairs and had him arrested on corruption charges on December 12, 2007.

But Ribadu said the climate had changed since Obasanjo had stepped down and President Umaru Yar'Adua had been sworn in. Ribadu said Ibori was close to Yar'Adua, and the new attorney general Michael Aondoakaa sought to neuter the EFCC.

On December 27, just 15 days after Ibori's arrest, Ribadu was sacked as chairman of the EFCC. Efforts to prosecute Ibori in Nigeria foundered, and he was eventually prosecuted in Britain because he had laundered some of his millions there.

After his removal as EFCC chairman, Ribadu told the court he survived two separate assassination attempts including one during which three shots were fired at his car.

After the second attempt, he fled Nigeria by what he described as the "bush path", first by motorcycle taxi across the border to Benin, then by an Air France flight to Paris and then to Britain where he was given refuge at an Oxford college.

Ribadu remained in exile until after the death of Yar'Adua in May 2010. He told the court that under new President Goodluck Jonathan, the climate changed again and he returned home.

It was also that year that Ibori's luck turned. He was arrested in Dubai on a British warrant and extradited to London a year later. He is now serving his term at Long Lartin maximum security prison in central England.

REAL REASONS WHY JONATHAN SACKED EMORDI AND OLAGUNJU

Our source revealed to us that last night President Goodluck Jonathan was uncomfortable with his dwindling political fortunes in the National Assembly despite the control of the two chambers of the national legislature by his party.

Presidential sources hinted Saturday Vanguard that Jonathan was particularly irked by the show of shame that erupted on the floor of the House of Representatives earlier in the week as a result of the face off between his supporters and opponents in the PDP, which broke into two last month.

There have been reports that a fat sum of money, which was meant to be disbursed to sympathetic lawmakers was not properly distributed thereby infuriating those who made the money available.

Some lawmakers were said to have received a paltry sum of $25,000 instead of $100,000 said to have been earmarked for them.
The wrong application of the money is said to have been partly responsible for the free-for-all on the floor of the House of Representatives during the week.

The source said that Jonathan was compelled to fire his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Sen. Joy Emordi, because of her perceived weakness and inability to influence the lawmakers in his favour.

The Presidency is said to have complained that Emordi had not been able to exert her position on the legislature and attract the requisite respect and support from majority of the members for Jonathan since her engagement about two years ago

Presidential strategists pondered why the ‘opponents’ of the President appeared to be gaining more attention in the NASS in spite of the position of Emordi and hordes of other officials working for the President.

A source said, “It is clear to Mr. President that Emordi’s presence has not earned him the needed leverage in the legislature as many members continue to work against his interest despite the fact that they are from the same party.

“She (Emordi) has clearly demonstrated through a lack-lustre perforce that she cannot build the required bridge between the President and the lawmakers and she had to go,” the source said.

It was learnt last night that the Presidency was already shopping for a more fiery northern politician, who would not only be able to attract the necessary political clout but also be able to mobilise support for the President.

Olagunju on the other hand is said to have failed to move NEPAD from its precarious state since his appointment and had to be booted out by the Presidency.

“NEPAD under Olagunju was dead and was only waiting for its final burial,” a source in the agency lamented, saying that the man had even outlived his usefulness.

Reacting to the development yesterday, Senator Joy Emodi in between receiving calls from serving legislators and well wishers expressed thanks to the president and the legislators for the support given her in the course of her assignment.

“I thank the president and all the legislators for the opportunity given to me to work with them.”

Senator Emodi was appointed to the position in 2011 and walked the difficult path of forging cordiality between the administration and the often skeptical National Assembly.

She was able to win the confidence of the legislators despite the hard feelings felt towards some elements in the administration.
