ACCESS BANK SINKS DEEPER AND DEEPER IN TROUBLE… As Aig Imoukhuede’s ‘CBN’ Job Is Threatened

aig-imokhuede-gmd-access-bank-photo

These are not the best of times for Access Bank Plc. The financial institution which has been snaking from one scandal to another has landed on a new one. Access Bank’s litany of woes started with the alleged N500m extravagant send forth party it staged for its MD, Mr. Imoukhuede whose tenure would soon come to an end. The party which held at the upscale Intercontinental Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos saw the bank flying in American pop star, Mariah Carey at a whopping cost to entertain their select guests. As if that was not enough, the bank laid off about 200 of their staff not long after. Which expectedly fetched them the ire of the general public, which is asking why they should spend so much on a party when they could have used the money to take care of the sacked staffers. The latest we have on the matter is that those tipping Aig to succeed Mallam Lamido Sanusi are not happy with the bad press his send forth party is currently generating. Confusion now reigns in their midst on how to sell him in the next few months-or whenever the time comes. And as a result, his people have begun working round the clock on how to stem its further spread. More details later.

St Paul College Says It Did Not Award MBA To Stella Oduah

Stella Oduah, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation who is embroiled in a scandal of towering proportions in the ministry, faces new integrity questions as her Masters’ degree has been challenged by the United States school which supposedly awarded it.

Her resume, which she presented to the Senate as a ministerial nominee in 2011, indicated she obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from St. Paul’s College Lawrenceville, Virginia, United States. But SaharaReporters has learned from the President of the college that it has never in its 125-year history had a graduate school or graduate program.

Similarly, the school’s website states: “Saint Paul's College is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate [bachelor’s] degrees.”  There is no mention of graduate degrees.

21-Year Old Nigerian Girl Who Was Attacked With Acid In London Was 'Attacked' By Her Friend

From Dailymail;

A jealous university student threw sulphuric acid over her friend in an attack inspired by the horrific assault on Katie Piper, a court today heard.

Mary Konye, 21, disguised herself in an Islamic veil showing only her eyes, and followed Naomi Oni home in East London before allegedly dousing her in the corrosive acid. Ms Oni, 21, who worked at Victoria’s Secret lingerie shop, suffered horrific burns on her face and chest, lost her hair and eyelashes and was left scarred for life in the alleged attack on December 30 2012.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that Konye, who was studying business and finance at Hertfordshire University, had been close friends with Ms Oni since secondary school.

But she was envious of the shop worker’s good looks, and the pair had rowed in the past leading Konye to attack her with acid previously, it is alleged.

Konye knew Ms Oni had been deeply 'moved' by Katie Piper, a model and TV presenter who was badly scarred and left blind in one eye after she was attacked with acid in an ambush arranged by her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch.

Knowing this, Konye decided to launch the copycat attack, jurors were told.

The court heard Ms Oni left work at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, East London, at around 11.30pm with several colleagues.

But she was oblivious to the fact she was being closely followed by Konye wearing a full niqab, a hooded black coat, gloves and a grey bag, jurors heard.

CCTV showed the university student had 'lingered waiting to see the victim' at Stratford and 'tailed' her home always making sure to keep a few steps behind her, the court heard.

On the phone to her boyfriend throughout the journey, she stopped off at takeaway to pick up some food and got the 368 bus to her house.

Unaware she was being followed, she got off the bus at Lodge Avenue, a few hundred yards away from her house.

But she suddenly became aware of a presence behind her and spun around to see someone in a niqab who lobbed a glass of acid at her.

Gareth Patterson, prosecuting, told jurors that Konye had threatened to attack Ms Oni with acid on another occasion after the pair rowed.

He said: 'Naomi will tell you about her friendship with the defendant.

'In particular she will tell you how in the past they had an up and down relationship and how the defendant had admitted to her that on one occasion in anger she threatened to throw acid at Naomi.

'There was a reason why the defendant would have chosen to make such an unusual sort of threat.

'In the past the two of them had discussed a young woman called Katie Piper.

'She was a woman who had acid thrown at her and that attack had been reported in the media.

'Naomi and the defendant had discussed this and it appears that the defendant knew that Naomi had been particularly moved by Katie Piper’s ordeal.

'Naomi stated that she and the defendant had fallen out in the past and says that there was an occasion during a row when she called the defendant ugly.

'She says that they were later back on speaking terms and importantly, that the defendant said to her that she (the defendant) had been so angry at the time that she had said to someone else, a friend of the defendant’s called Kamilah Andrews, that she (the defendant) wanted to throw acid at Naomi.

'Naomi believed that the defendant had realised just how upset she had been by Katie Piper’s horrible ordeal.'

Mr Patterson said: 'She could not see the face of the person, just the light-brown coloured skin around the eyes.

'She believed it was a female. The woman was staring at her.

'All of a sudden Naomi felt a liquid being thrown into her face. She screamed and immediately felt her face burning.

'She could smell her skin and hair burning. She immediately ran home.

'Naomi’s boyfriend Ato Owede was still on the phone with her at the time of the attack. He describes how he was chatting with her when suddenly he heard his girlfriend scream.'

The liquid immediately burnt through her skin and clothes and left her face blistered.

Screaming and shouting 'acid' she ran to her house in Dagenham and desperately tried to wash the harmful liquid off before being rushed to Broomfield Hospital for specialist treatment for her burns.

Her house was packed with relatives who were staying for the Christmas and New Year holiday and frantically tried to help the young shop worker wash the acid off.

The skin on her face and part of her neck has turned white and peeled off, and there was also burning to her nose, cheeks and chin, right wrist, hand, stomach and left thigh.

She had to spend a month in hospital undergoing intensive treatment for her injuries.

Specialist cops who deal with chemical spills tested the clothes and a pool of water at Ms Oni’s home.
They found that her burnt out clothes and the pool of water all had a ph level of 1 - the most acidic.
Her cardigan had 'melted, producing a black tar-like material' and had a 'pronounced acrid smell'.
They believe she was doused with sulphuric acid, which is used in the chemical industry and found in batteries and drain cleaners.

Konye, who was arrested on February 22 last year, denied carrying out the attack or ever threatening to throw acid at Naomi.

Mr Patterson said: 'She described the victim as being very attractive and said she believed the victim had wanted to work in make-up.

'She said they had had quite a few fallings out, including one very big one, however she said she did not remember ever saying she was going to attack Naomi with acid.

'She denied being in any way jealous of the victim’s looks.'

He added: 'She agreed that she and the victim had previously spoken about the acid attack on Katie Piper.'
But she denied carrying out the attack or knowing who did it.

Jurors were told there is mobile phone evidence placing Konye on the same bus as Ms Oni.

Wearing her long hair down and a purple top and black cardigan, Konye, of Canning Town, East London, sat in the dock passively and repeatedly stared at the floor during the hearing.

She denies throwing or casting a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure, disable or do grievous bodily harm.

I HAVE SLEPT UNDER THE BRIDGE BEFORE+MY RAGS 2 RICHES STORY-RAMSY NOAH

Celebrities have started sharing their rags to riches story to inspire people who look up to them. In a new interview with Sunday Sun, actor Ramsey Noah recalled the years before the fame and money.
"Those were the times when things got really bad for my mother and I and we had nothing. It was so bad that we didn’t have a home or shelter to live in. We had to stay in a store, a small store that could take only one mat. My mother and I squeezed ourselves in that mat. We didn’t even have a cup to drink water not to talk of a stove to cook. And my mother had to borrow, beg and stuff like that. These were moments when I was young I didn’t realize the gravity of poverty we were in, I couldn’t tell. But it was a good orientation for me. It was moments that I thank God for making me past through, because that has sustained and helped me even as an actor. The ability to deliver all the roles they give me because I have tasted both sides of the coin." Ramsey said. Continue..

Tell us about your growing up?
My growing up was like tasting the two sides of a coin. When I said tasting the two sides of a coin; I mean tasting being a rich man and a poor man. I grew up with my mother, and with a silver spoon, I had it all. When I began to realize that I had good things to show off, everything disappeared. We started from grace to grass; that has helped me a lot because it totally balanced the equation of life. It gives me confidence in all spheres. For instance, I can hang out with the enlightened or the rich. I can mingle with them very easily without any complication or complex whatsoever. Also, if it is the low class or poor people, I can mingle very easily with them. I can eat a fantastic dinner in a huge, expensive restaurant and I can go eat amala at a buka and I would not feel anything. I don’t care being a popular actor or a role model. I am a role model to everybody.

Are you saying that fame has not denied you anything in life?
It has denied me a few, but it has not denied me being as natural as I want to be. I won’t let that happen. It has happened to some of my colleagues. Fame has taken them away from what they wanted to do or be. There was a time I went to a bank to pay my NEPA bill and I was wearing a short and T-shirt, because it was on Monday morning somebody came down and said ‘Ramsey Noah, you are a role model, you shouldn’t have been wearing this’. I didn’t take it likely with him.

With all these experiences, what has life taught you?
Life has taught me never to look down on anybody because the person you disregard might just be your saviour tomorrow. I realized that all my mother’s property was washed away by rain. We couldn’t sleep all through the night because of the flood. It was really terrible. Like I said, it is a life lesson.

Is there anything that can make you cry or shed tears after all you passed through?
Yeah, those moments; those terrible moments when we had nothing and we were living off people. People were just helping us out. There were times we didn’t have food to eat three or four days. You haven’t eaten and your stomach is rumbling but you don’t have any place to go. There was a time I lived on the street, in shops. There was a time I slept under the bridge. It was unfortunate that there were no records so that we can have memories we could play back now. To me, I am so extremely grateful that I went through it. At that time I hated everybody around me. In fact, I used to question why God was doing this to me. But I think God knew that I needed this for my future

High court bombed in Rivers State

A High Court in Ahoada East LGA of Rivers State was bombed this morning Monday January 6th, according to reports from the state.

The Will Nigeria reports
The bombing of the court where Justice Charles N. Wali usually holds court, reportedly occurred on Monday morning a few hours before a politically charged suit against Hon Evans Bipi, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and leader of a group of 6 lawmakers, who has been unlawfully parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice Wali had about a month ago ordered Bipi to stop parading himself as Speaker of the House as the tussle over control of the state government between loyalists of the Presidency and the Rivers Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, lingers with an end in sight.
