Abuja court sentences Lebanese to life imprisonment for terrorism

A Federal High Court in Abuja today sentenced Talal Ahmad Roda (pictured above), one of the three Lebanese men arrested in May 2013 in connection with illegal possessions of weapon, to life imprisonment. Mr Roda was arrested after a large cache of arms was found in a bunker during a raid on his residence. He was found guilty of all 5 counts of illegal possession of weapons and conspiracy.

Two other men, Mustapha Fawaz, the owner Amigo Supermarket in Abuja and Abdallah Tahini, who were also charged with possession of illegal weapons, were set free by the court. See photos from the trial after the cut...

Retired footballer David Beckham recently revealed that he was forced to masturbate in front of his teammates as part of his initiation into Manchester United's youth team in 1991.

Beckham, who opened up about the incident in a documentary titled The Class of ’92, said the incident happened when he was just 16 years old. Ex-footballer Odartey Lamptey discovers 3 kids with wife are not his

Former Ghanaian international footballer Nii Odartey Lamptey has revealed that he recently found out that all three children he had with his wife of almost 20 years are not his biological children. He made the shocking revelation in a radio interviewed when asked why he was divorcing his wife.
“...I thought they were my children but upon a DNA test, I got to know that they are not my biological children. During the 7th annual Town Hall Meeting on Security held in Lagos, Governor Fashola said the two BMW cars bought for Stella Oduah will purchase 51 patrol vehicles for the Nigerian Police.
"It is sad to know that the Federal Government that allocate three patrol vehicles for one state police command of 370, 000 police men, is unable to resolve how N255 million was used to purchase 2 saloon vehicles for one officer. It is a very grave irony. The cost of average vehicle needed to patrol the state is just N5 million. And with such fund, we will have put at least 51 patrol vehicles on the road, patrolling the streets of Lagos.”
"In spite of all this, they resist the idea of a state police. The money from the fund was in the last one year used to provide vehicles for the Nigerian Prison Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, National Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC and indeed the airport wing of the Nigerian police, is funded from this money. 45-Year Old Man, Rapes 75-Year-Old Woman Causing Her To Bleed But Says They Are Lovers

A 45-year-old farmer, Lawrence Adedapo, is now in Police custody for allegedly forcibly having carnal knowledge of a 75-year-old woman, Grace Asaolu, at Ogbese Camp, Ise-Ekiti in Ise-Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Adedapo was said to have invited the septuagenarian to his house on November 7 this year under the pretex that he brought some plantain from his farm for sale.

The accused was said to have taken advantage of the old woman’s fragile nature, overpowering her before having carnal knowledge of her.

According to the victim, “Lawrence Adedapo is my neighbour. He invited me to come and collect plantain but instead he pushed me on his children’s bed and forcefully had carnal knowledge of me. I later rushed to the police station to report the matter.”

Upon interrogation, the suspect confirmed that he had carnal knowledge of the woman but denied forcing her, claiming that she was his mistress.

He said: “I knew her long time ago. I knew her as a widow from Moba Local Government Area of the state. We have known each other for the past 35 years and I have been dating her for long.

“The last time I had sex with her was in April during Easter before meeting her again on November 7. That was the second time we met this year. I did not force her into it and I had her consent before doing it”.

Asked why she reported the matter to the police, Adedapo said: “I promised to give her N2,000 which she asked for before we did it. But after the sex I was able to give her N1,000 only. That could be the reason why she alleged that I raped her. I later found out that she was bleeding as a result of the sex.

“I did not even ejaculate because I used my children’s room, so I had to rush.”

However, the police image maker in the state, Mr. Victor Babayemi, ASP, insisted that the investigation carried out by the police revealed that the old woman was actually raped by the suspect.

He said: “In the course of investigation, facts emerged that the suspect knew the victim to be of old age, 75, and in menopause.

“She could not have been bleeding without tampering with her organ. Medical report shows that there was a violent sexual assault on her; she was also said to be distressed with her genital smeared with fresh blood.

“It shows that he invited the woman with criminal intent to have intercourse with her.

Nigerian man killed by a lorry after storming out of car during row with his wife

A Nigerian man was killed on a motorway after getting out of a car on the way to the airport after a fight with his wife over their credit card.

Nahinmu Nicholas had stormed out of the Ford Focus with his suitcases, saying he was going to hitch-hike to Heathrow, but was knocked down by a lorry in the morning darkness.

His wife had pulled over on what they both thought was the hard shoulder of the M25, not realising that it was a live lane because of roadworks. A coroner was told that lorry driver Martin Hook was unable to avoid Mr Nicholas as he suddenly caught sight of him.

His 13-tonne bread lorry also struck the couple’s car in the accident just six minutes after they had stopped on the clockwise carriageway of the M25 at junction 6 for Godstone,  Surrey, at around 4.30am on April 10.

Florence Olokun-Ola told the inquest in Woking, Surrey, that her husband was going to Nigeria alone for 12 days and that the fight started because she wanted their bank card while he was away. ‘The argument became very aggressive and his voice changed,’ she added.

Mrs Olokun-Ola, who had earlier told how financial problems had caused tension in their relationship, said she no longer felt comfortable driving and pulled over to what she thought was the hard shoulder.
She added: ‘He took off his seat belt. As soon as the car stopped he took the keys and opened the boot and took out his luggage. He put it by the crash barrier.’
In an attempt to get her husband back in the car Mrs Olokun-Ola drove forward a bit, but he started to walk back down the carriageway  trying to thumb a lift. 

Then she felt the force of the  collision as the lorry struck the rear of her car.
‘I got out the car and at first I was angry because he didn’t come  running over to see if I was okay,’ she said. She then discovered her  husband’s body and ran back to the car to dial 999.
Mr Hook said he was travelling through the roadworks at 50mph. ‘The next thing I knew was there was a dark shadow in front of me,’ he added. ‘I turned straight away to the centre of the carriageway.’
A post-mortem examination  concluded that Mr Nicholas died as a result of severe head injuries.

Accident reconstruction officer PC Dominic Gibson said that the stretch of the M25 where the accident  happened was unlit. He said there were signs warning that the hard shoulder was now a live lane.

Assistant Surrey Coroner Michael Burgess recorded a verdict that Mr Nicholas, of Dartford, Kent, died as a result of a road traffic collision.

Comedian Julius Agwu sues Etisalat for N100m over blocked line

Comedian Julius Agwu has dragged telecoms giant Etisalat to court for blocking his business line. He is demanding for N100million as compensation for jobs lost, contact lost, for the inconveniences, and for being mistreated by Etisalat staff. Below is a statement from his lawyer, Festus Keyamo...

We are solicitors to Mr. Julius Agwu, one of Nigeria's most sought after entertainers (hereinafter referred to as "our client") and on whose behalf we write.

Our client is the owner of the Etisalat GSM phone number 08189555555, which he uses as his business line. On the 8th of October, 2013, our client travelled out of the country and returned on the 17th of the same month. Upon his return, he tried severally to make calls from the aforestated GSM line but same could not connect. Not only could he not make calls, he also could not receive calls on the said GSM line. This continued for some days until he got a message that his line had been blocked by the network provider.

Sequel to the above message, our client promptly visited your Abuja office at Hilton to report the matter. He was attended to by one Miss Joan, who informed him that somebody swapped his line. After our client successfully answered the security questions put to him, he was informed that his line had been restored, but the credit balance on the line was not returned.

Federal Government gives ASUU 1 week ultimatum to call off strike

During a press briefing in Abuja this morning, the acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike told journalist that the Federal Government has given the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) one week ultimatum to call off the ongoing strike.

ASUU execs and President Jonathan were supposed to meet this week but the meeting is yet to hold. The ASUU strike began July 1, almost 5 months later, no resolution in sight. Sad!

The FG also said any Academic staff who fails to resume on or before December 4th automatically ceases to be a staff of the institution. Pro-chancellors of the various universities and the National Universities Commissions (NUC) have been directed to ensure compliance of this directive.

Asari Dokubo released in Benin Rep., flown to Abuja in private jet

Asari Dokubo has been released two days after he was arrested in Benin Republic. The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force was reportedly released early this morning after President Jonathan intervened on his behalf with the President of Benin Republic, Yayi Boni.

APC protest against electoral fraud in Anambra state

                                

The All Progressives Congress (APC) congress march taking place at INEC HQ, Abuja. The APC says the protest to INEC headquarters is to register its disapproval of the Commission’s string of failures in conducting recent elections, including the ‘inconclusive’ Anambra Governorship poll. They are demanding the cancellation of Anambra gubernatorial poll. 

The protesters were stopped by a detachment heavily armed policemen who prevented them from reaching the INEC offices. Protesters include former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, former military head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, and Chief Bisi Akande.

You're a widow, go and die!" That's what Governor Adams Oshiomhole said to widow during a sanitation exercise of Benin City with some state officials recently. The woman was hawking on the road side which is illegal in the state but to tell her to go and die after she knelt in front of him, crying and begging him not to seize her little means of livelihood, is just cold-hearted.

15yr old Nigerian boy shot& stabbed in his home after being mistaken for gang member

A 15 year-old boy named Kieran Obazee was shot and stabbed on Friday Nov. 22 at his east London home by gang members in what police believe may have been a case of mistaken identity, Daily Mail reports. Fortunately, Kieran survived the vicious attack and but is in a serious condition in hospital.
Five men wearing balaclavas and armed with kives and a gun forced their way into the home in Plaistow just before 3am on Friday.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Detectives believe the attackers were looking for a member of a gang and attacked him by mistake.
This morning a Scotland Yard spokesperson said: 'The person who may have been involved in a gang was staying at the address and they may have been the target, but the boy who was attacked had no criminal background.'


Shocked residents of the estate in Plaistow told how they rushed to the injured boy's aid after his terrified mum ran door to door screaming for help. One neighbour told how they administered first aid.

The neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said: 'It was quiet on Thursday night, all I heard was the banging as they booted the door in and then another bang, but it didn't sound like a gun shot to me at the time.'

The neighbour said they could see a woman banging on other neighbours' doors and screaing 'please help my son' when they looked into the street.
Detectives believe the attackers were looking for a member of a gang and attacked the teenager by mistake

The neighbour said: 'There was no sound of screeching tyres so they must have run or cycled off after attacking him.
'I ran down and we went into their house, he was lying on the landing floor and there was a lot of blood on the carpet and on the wall.
'His mum and sister had wrapped his leg up to stop the bleeding, the people trying to help him were panicking so I took over.
'I kept him talking, he was going into shock and was really confused. He was bleeding a lot from his lower right calf and his sister was begging the paramedics to come quicker over the phone.
Paramedics arrived at the scene before taking the teenager, the son of a biochemist, to hospital.
The neighbour said: 'It felt like ages before the paramedics arrived, I was so scared that there was a 15-year-old boy who was bleeding out.

'Thank God he's ok, he seemed like a regular lad from a regular family, it's so shocking.
'They were just a normal, nice family, who kept themselves to themselves. I don't know why they would attack him, there's been no-one like that hanging around their house.'
A police spokesman said: ‘Police patrols have been increased in the area in order to provide reassurance to the local community.’

Shouldn't there be freedom of religion to every citizen of a country, so how can Angola do this? If reports are to be believed then the Southern African country has become the first country in the world to ban the Islamic religion. According to multiple reports coming from Angola, Mosques in the country have been closed down and some even destroyed.

The Guardian reports that on November 22, the Angolan Minister of Culture Rosa Cruz e Silva said that “the process of legalization of Islam has not been approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and so their mosques would be closed until further notice.”

Does a religion need to be legalized? The minister also said that the closing of mosques was done in a move to stop so-called 'illegal religious sects.' Under new laws in Angola, many religious sects have suddenly become criminal.

Yesterday November 24, Angola President José Eduardo dos Santos said that the country is working toward putting an end to Islamic influence in Angola once and for all while the Governor of Luanda, Bento Bento, said that “radical” Muslims are not welcome in the country and that the Angolan government will not be legalizing mosques or other places of worship for Muslims.

ADAOBI OBIH'S SUSPECTED KILLER,RYAN KLUG CAUGHT IN TEXAS

    
The prime suspect in the murder of 26 year old Nigerian, Adaobi. M. Obih, has been apprehended in Texas. Ryan Allen Klug was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals near Galveston, Texas on Saturday Nov. 23rd, four days after his roommate Adaobi was found dead in the flat they shared in Indiana.

A full time test engineer at Cummins Inc., Adaobi only began to pursue her PHD before she was murdered. Family sources said she leased the apartment on her own and Klug was her tenant who paid rent to her. They also said Ada interviewed a large number of people before deciding to lease a room to Klug. Only for him to end up killing her.

Ada's employees were alerted after she missed two days of work. They went to her flat to see what was going on with her only to find her lifeless body in her apartment. Ada had been stabbed multiple times and her throat cut.

ZIMBABWE OUTLAWS NIGERIANS FROM TRADING IN THEIR COUNTRY

According to news reports, starting from January next year, Nigerians trading in Zimbabwe will no longer be allowed to. Zimbabwean authorities said they have given foreign shop-owners, mostly Chinese and Nigerian nationals, an ultimatum to shut down their businesses by January. 1, 2014.

A top official of the black empowerment ministry said only Zimbabweans had the right to run shops that have sprung up across the country and are termed foreign businesses targeted under the nation’s black empowerment laws, the state-controlled Herald newspaper reportedFriday.

Those laws, passed in 2007, demand foreign businesses to cede 51 percent control to local blacks. The foreign shop owners have been criticized for taking retail trade opportunities from Zimbabwean traders by selling cheap imports.

Gunmen attack Aviation Minister Stella Oduah's car - Police

The FCT Police Command on Monday in Abuja confirmed that gunmen fired shots at the car of the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah in Abuja. The spokesperson of the command, Altine Daniel, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Friday.

She added that the minister was not in the car when the incident took place.

Ms. Daniel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, however, said that the incident was reported to the police on Monday at about 5:30 p.m. According to her, some metal objects were found in the vehicle which do not look like the conventional bullet. “The objects will be subjected to ballistic test,” she said. Sokoto state plans mass wedding for 250 widows, widowers

The Sokoto State Government said on Sunday that it would give out in a mass wedding, 250 widows and widowers across the state to give them a new lease of life.

Alhaji Zubairu Goronyo, the state Commissioner for Social Development, who announced this at the screening of the beneficiaries in Sokoto, said that the venture would gulp N30 million.

According to him, a date will soon be fixed for the exercise.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, who witnessed the screening that was done to establish the health status of the beneficiaries, reported that it was handled by various committees.

Alhaji Zubairu said that beds, mattresses, sets of chairs, curtains and two sets of female wrappers would be given to each of the 125 brides.

He said that similarly, the grooms would be given two sets of guinea brocade, N20,000 each as dowry to formalise the marriage agreement, and another N20,000 each to boost their businesses.

The commissioner said that the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, would serve as guardians to the brides and grooms at the ceremony.
