Real Reasons Why Italian Government Deported 40 Nigerians

Day before yesterday,40 Nigerians were deported from Italy by the Italian government.
The reasons for deportation however are not far fetched as 39 out of 40 were deported for immigration reasons, while one male was deported for drug related offenses.

The deportees arrived Muritala Muhammed international airport, lagos, nigeria at 8.25 pm via Nigeria aboard Air Meridiana aircraft with the registration number E1-FNU.
The deportees comprised of men and women. We gathered that the returnee with drug related issues would be handed over to police for further prosecution while 39 others were profiled by the officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service attached to the airport.

I Make Bold To Say Nigeria's Consumer Protection Act Isnt Effective- ENITIOLORUNDA ABIOLA -IDRIS

It is a norm for every nation to make a law that is expected to protect the interest of its citizens in the course of shopping for goods and services. However, this motion is known as consumer protection.
It guards against exploitation of consumers, reduces the risk of exposure to harm from buying and using a product. It also serves as a platform for consumers to seek redress in the event of exploitation.
The Nigeria consumer protection council act under chapter C25,laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, it is an act to provide for the establishment of the consumer protection  council and for matters connected therewith.

The council is made up of a chairman,a representative of each state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and persons representing the ministries of health, commerce, industry, science and technology and petroleum resources.
The function of the council includes the following but are not limited to
1. Provide instant redress to consumers complaints through negotiation, mediation and conciliation.
2. Seek ways and means of eliminating hazardous products from the market and causing offenders to  replace such products with appropriate alternatives.
3. Cause an offending company or an individual to report ,compensate or provide relief an safeguards to injured consumers or community from adverse effects of technologies that are inherently harmful.
4. Ensure consumer interest receive due consideration at appropriate forum and provide redress for the exploitation of consumers.

As impeccable as these objectives are, the appraisal of the impact of the act lies in the deliverables.
The ability of the council to record a pass mark in its deliverables rests in its success in combating law offenders.

Case Study

Research has it that newbisco coaster biscuit is in high demand compared to newbisco crackers biscuit.
Two nights ago, i came back from work famished, took a walk into a local store in my neighborhood at okeira, ogba, lagos, nigeria to get newbisco coaster biscuit and a drink.
Unfortunately when i requested for the biscuit the young man told me that i cannot buy newbisco coaster biscuit without buying cracker biscuit, so i asked why and he said bros, that was how they made it compulsory for us at the market, so we have to make it compulsory for our buyers.

Apparently both newbisco crackers and coaster biscuits are manufactured by the same manufacturer.
I  think newbisco is exploiting nigerians by coming up with such policy to forcefully sell their  products.

The Untold Story: Why South Africans Hate Nigerians By Enitiolorunda Abiola-Idris

Why Nigerians Travel To South Africa?
What South Africa is to Nigeria is what America represents to many across the world.
A land of opportunity. When gold was discovered in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1886, it was being mined by men from a dozen of African nations.

Today , Madiba's country is a magnet for Congolese, Ethiopians, Malawians, Mozambicans, Nigerians, Somalis, Zimbabweans and others fleeing conflict or seeking to improve their lives.

However, the recent wave of xenophobia attack on fellow Africans including Nigerians has tarnished the image and fueled resentment among those who accuse Madiba's countrymen of arrogant exceptionalism that resents its fellow Africans.

Chris, 36 , a security guard from  Nigeria had this to say  "I chose South Africa because the living conditions are better than any other country
Its a shock for me that its not the democratic country i envisaged
I am disappointed than an African brother can do this to his fellow African brother, this depicts hatred in the heart of South African's
Adding that, some men gathered and said he is a Nigerian, get him and stab him, these are men i have known for some years now, they pursued me and stabbed me on my back, taking my phones and the little money i had left for survival
In the middle of the night, i heard my neighbors been tortured, screaming and running for their lives.
They even hit some of them with a hammer and said you must pack your things and leave"

What Are The Forms Of Xenophobic Attack?
1.Physical Violence
2.Business Location Vandalization
3.Home Vandalization
4.Extortion

How Hate Attack On Nigerians Began

Again, South Africa's xenophobic attack hit Nigerians.
Having started at Durban, in February, 2017, later spread to Johannesburg.
A large number  of houses and businesses that belonged to Nigerians were vandalized.
Its note worthy to state that  quite a number of Nigerians have been stabbed, beaten, injured, molested by South African's who accuse Nigerians of taking their jobs and their women.

Untold Story:  Real Reasons Nigerians Are Being Attacked In Madiba's Country

1. Morbid hatred and jealousy for Nigerians- South Africans harbor morbid hatred for Nigerians, simply because the latter are doing better than them.
Naija's as fondly called are by default very aggressive , highly committed to their businesses, hence they succeed.

2. Lack of education/skills/training-  History has it that the government sponsored apartheid regime was designed to keep the black South African's at the lower cadre of the social order.
Apart from being deterred from parity with the white's in their homeland, the black's could not access basic social amenities like education, their lack of education during the apartheid era suffered their generation to be unable to rub shoulder's and stay relevant in a post apartheid society.
This explains why many South African's are uneducated and jobless, however, frustration has turned into hatred towards other African's whom they accuse of taking their low cadre jobs.

3. Nigerian fraudsters & South African Women-  It is note worthy to mention that 85% of Nigerian guys in South Africa are fraudsters.
However they make so much money, buy expensive cars, drinks, live large to the extent of having 2-3 South African married women in their abode turned brothel.
These women leave their husbands, boyfriends, fiances for Nigerian scammers who spend so much money on them, while their South African husband remain sex starved.

4. South African men are lazy & irresponsible- Its in South Africa, i saw a woman take care of the family, the man who is suppose to be the head of the family is not working, is referred to as a "local"  extorts money, phones from people at night and then sell it, use the money to get high, sleep on the road side, hence the ladies opt for rich Nigerian guys.

5. Cheap labor- It is a known fact that the menial jobs belongs to black South African's because they have no education, yet  Nigerian's still apply for those menial jobs because they do not have the required papers to get decent jobs.
Jobs that  pay  100 rand per week will be  given to a Nigerian who is ready to  take a token of 45 rand or less because they do not have papers to get white collar jobs.

Its quite disheartening to hear that Zulu King was quoted to have said that Nigerians should pack their bags and leave now.

The $100 Domiciliary Account Saga

Its a known fact that in Nigeria to open a domiciliary account of any kind requires foreign exchange.

To open a dollar domiciliary account requires a $100 note and the same applies to pounds and  euro.

Despite the fact that the federal govt pumped millions of dollars into the market to sustain liquidity of dollars in the inter-bank foreign exchange market, commercial banks still ask its customers to patronize parallel markets for dollar notes to open domiciliary accounts when they can collect its equivalent in naira and credit the  domiciliary account .

In what way will this policy stabilize the foreign exchange market?

Why Shouldn't Diamond Bank's Integrity Be Questioned?

Some years ago , Diamond Bank Plc launched a product called HIDA account which denotes "High Interest Deposit Account" with the purpose of  encouraging people to save money for a project  with a minimum balance of #100000(ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND NAIRA).

The most interesting feature of this product was its "USP" which gave people the opportunity to save towards a project , get high interest rate, withdraw from their respective accounts anytime they deem fit.

On, March 13 2017, the aforementioned bank sent a mail to its customers that the rule has changed adding that HIDA account holders would no longer be able to withdraw from their accounts anymore also only transfer to other Diamond Bank accounts can be made twice a month.

This decision of the bank led to a  pandemonium  in the Ogba branch of Diamond Bank.

I understand that the said bank must have requested for the approval of this so called policy change
from the Central Bank of Nigeria but the truth about the matter is that the CBN needs to take a deep look at this so called policy change that lacks integrity.

Real Reasons I Requested For N13.12m Travel Loan'- Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has explained his request for a N13.12 million loan from the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, meant for logistics for an official assignment to China. In a statement signed by the Director, Public Relations and Protocol in the Ministry, Peter Dama, Lai Mohammed said‎ the letter to the NBC requesting for a loan was mischievously leaked to social media by staff of the commission.‎

The statement added that the loan was to cover tickets and travel expenses of a five-member delegation being led by the Minister to Beijing, China, for a Conference on Tourism for Development.

“The loan being requested for is for the ministry to meet up its obligations to enable the Minister and members of his delegation attend the all important conference. The loan is not meant for the minister alone as personal expenses, but for the expenses of all members of the delegation. The Conference is being organised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation in conjunction with the Government of the People’s Republic of China, under the overall theme “Tourism for Peace and Development. It will feature amongst others, discussions on major issues for sustainable development including the contribution of Tourism to poverty reduction and peace. The conference is a veritable platform to develop synergy and partnership with players in the global Tourism Industry which will go a long way in boosting our drive to diversify the Nigerian economy,” it stated.

US Set To Return $350m Stolen Nigerian Money Kept With Them

The United States government through the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, has reassured the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government at the Anti-corruption Summit Plenary in Lancaster House London, United Kingdom, that it would return at least $350m of stolen money from Nigeria.

According to Kerry, “This money goes somewhere, folks. When I read that tens of billions of dollars were stolen from President (Muhammadu) Buhari’s country by generals and put into other nations, some of it in our country – and we are now working to restore $350 million back, and there’s more to be restored to the people.

“And every one of those million dollars that comes back to a country is the opportunity to provide a desk and a chair and school and shelter and health care and meet the needs of nations. That is why we organise ourselves in the world around rule of law and in an effort to try to provide for our citizens,”

Osinbajo Explains Why We Will Have To Buy Fuel At N145 For Now

Fellow Citizens:

I have read the various observations about the fuel pricing regime and the attendant issues generated. All certainly have strong points.

The most important issue of course is how to shield the poor from the worst effects of the policy.  I will hopefully address that in another note.

Permit me an explanation of the policy. First, the real issue  is not a removal of subsidy. At $40 a barrel there isn't much of a subsidy to remove.

In any event, the President is probably one of the most convinced pro-subsidy advocates.

What happened is as follows: our local consumption of fuel is almost entirely imported. The NNPC exchanges crude from its joint venture share to provide about 50% of local fuel consumption. The remaining 50% is imported by major and independent marketers.

These marketers up until three months ago sourced their foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria at the official rate. However, since late last year, independent marketers have brought in little or no fuel because they have been unable to get foreign exchange from the CBN. The CBN simply did not have enough. (In April, oil earnings dipped to $550 million. The amount required for fuel importation alone is about $225million!) .

Meanwhile, NNPC tried to cover the 50% shortfall by dedicating more export crude for domestic consumption. Besides the short term depletion of the Federation Account, which is where the FG and States are paid from, and further cash-call debts pilling up, NNPC also lacked the capacity to distribute 100% of local consumption around the country. Previously, they were responsible for only about 50%. (Partly the reason for the lingering scarcity).

We realised that we were left with only one option. This was to allow independent marketers and any Nigerian entity to source their own foreign exchange and import fuel. We expect that foreign exchange will be sourced at an average of about N285 to the dollar, (current interbank rate). They would then be restricted to selling at a price between N135 and N145 per litre.

We expect that with competition, more private refineries, and NNPC refineries working at full capacity, prices will drop considerably. Our target is that by Q4 2018 we should be producing 70% of our fuel needs locally. At the moment even if all the refineries are working optimally they will produce just about 40% of our domestic fuel needs.

You will notice that I have not mentioned other details of the PPRA cost template. I wanted to focus on the cost component largely responsible for the substantial ri
se, namely foreign exchange. This is therefore not a subsidy removal issue but a foreign exchange problem, in the face of dwindling earnings.

Thank you all.

VICE PRESIDENT YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN

I prostrated, held Obasanjo's feet as a well trained Yoruba man and pleaded earnestly for his forgiveness-Doyin Okupe

Former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity, Dr Doyin Okupe, has disclosed in a facebook page that all is now well between him and ex-president Obasanjo. According to Okupe, the former Head of State forgave him of his wrong and everything is now settled between them. He wrote;

“Last Sunday , in the company of some friends I met with Baba Obasanjo principally to try and settle and resolve the misunderstanding that has existed between baba and I since I joined the Jonathan administration.

“Vintage baba, he descended on me heavily and vented his anger copiously. I prostrated and held his feet as a well trained Yoruba man and pleaded earnestly for his forgiveness, occasionally given short explanations for areas I considered my actions were misunderstood.

“Also typical of baba, ever willing to forgive a repentant son, we embraced; I even kissed him as a loving son.

“Politics sometimes is such a bad business, you hurt your friends and even benefactors, but all is well that ends well.”

Naira Falls To 360 As Demand For Dollar Rises

The naira has weakened furtherand now trades at 360 to a dollar at the parallel market. It would be recalled that only on Thursday it was at 341, but weakened further to 360 by yesterday, Friday. The rise has been linked to the demand for dollars by fuel importers who are jostling to import the products amidst its increase.

Fuel Price: NLC To Begin Total Strike On Wednesday

The national executive committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress yesterday held a meeting in which they concluded a total strike will begin on Wednesday, 18th of may, 2016 to protest the increase in the fuel pump price of pms from N86.50k to N145 per litre by the federal government.

The meeting was attended by all major civil society organisations based in Abuja and was chaired by the president of the NLC, Mr. Ayuba Wabba. According to a source, Monday and Tuesday would be given to the federal government to reverse the new price.

Buhari To Name Looters In 15 Days

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari said in London yesterday that the names of corrupt Nigerians will be made public in a speech he intends to deliver on May 29. He mentioned such corrupt individuals will be prosecuted.

He also mentioned all those involved in blowing up oil installations and sabotaging investments in the Niger Delta region will not go unpunished. He noted that he has already directed  the Chief of Naval Staff and other service chiefs to fish out the brains behind the attacks.

Northern Elders Declare Support For Subsidy Removal

The Northern Elders Council has expressed support for the partial removal of fuel subsidy.

According to the group, the long term benefits of the decision outweigh the short term pains associated with it.

Chairman of the council, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai said this in a telephone interview with Punch, in Abuja, on Thursday.

He explained that he has personally been a strong supporter of withdrawal of fuel subsidy for the last twenty years.

The elder statesman explained that this position was informed by the fact that ordinary Nigerians have not benefitted from the subsidy regime because the actual beneficiaries have been marketers and their collaborators in successive governments.

Yakassai said, “Marketers and smugglers have been the main beneficiaries of the policy.

“Besides, as long as the petroleum products price would be cheaper in Nigeria than in our immediate neibouring countries, nobody can stop smuggling of the products from our country to our neighbours.

“If the government removes the subsidy, the money that would be saved as a result can be put to better use in dealing with more pressing problems bedeviling our nation such as problems of endemic unemployment, dilapidated infrastructure, modernisation of agriculture, addressing the need for robust education and healthcare delivery.”

The former Presidential Laison Officer further explained that above all, Nigeria will save a lot of resources lost to corrupt individuals and corporations who have together conspired to deny Nigerians the better life they deserve.

EFCC Invade Fani Kayode’s Home Again

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday invaded the residence of the embattled former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, his media aide said.

The EFCC could not be immediately reached and Premium Times could not independently confirm the claim.

If true, Thursday’s raid on the former minister’s home would be the second in less than a week.

Mr. Fani-Kayode has been in the agency’s custody since he submitted himself to investigators on Monday.

A panic email distributed by Jude Ndukwe, Mr. Fani-Kayode’s media aide, said the operatives entered the building “wielding their guns”.

The full statement reads as follows:

Earlier today, the EFCC invaded the residence of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode even when he was still in their custody. What miffed us most was their mode of operation which was forceful, provocative and dangerous as they wielded their guns with needless threats. The worst is that the invasion was without a warrant as they forced their way in, and after terrifying all the staff at home including the infant, they whisked the laundry man away even though he was later released.

This is the fourth time the EFCC operatives would be invading Chief Fani-Kayode’s residence in just under a week. We condemn this act of executive lawlessness, harassment and intimidation. Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has served this country even at the highest levels and he deserves some courtesy.

We call on the EFCC to endeavour to carry out their functions within the ambit of our laws and stop brazenly betraying the fact that Chief Fani-Kayode is under persecution. The world is watching!

Melaye Gives FG 7 Days Ultimatum To Reverse Petrol Pump Price, Else He Will Lead The Mother Of All Protest

Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sen. Dino Melaye has urged the National Chairman of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Odigie Oyegun, to ask President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal government to reverse the recently announced increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol or else he will lead the mother of all protest if that is not done within seven days. Melaye said this on his Facebook page, he wrote;

“My sincere advise is for the National Chairman of our party to suggest that the federal government immediately reverse the announced increase in the pump price of PMS. If after seven days from Monday, there is no reversal, I will mobilize Nigerians from all walks of life for the mother of all protest.

“This is not what we promised Nigerians. The time is not right and the negative effects will be unbearable. A word is enough for the wise.”

Buhari Deceived Nigerians- Falana

During the campaign last year, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari pledged that if elected as President by the Nigerian people his administration would not remove fuel subsidy. Since he won the election last year President Buhari has consistently resisted pressures from the neo-liberal characters in the government to remove fuel subsidy and increase the price of petrol. On January 18, 2016 the federal government allayed the fear of Nigerians when the price of petrol was reduced to N86.50k per litre. In justifying the decision to the people the federal government claimed that the reduction was due to an implementation of the revised component of the Petroleum Products Pricing Template for PMS and household kerosene.

It would be recalled that following the popular agitation against the removal of fuel subsidy in 2012, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources had announced the decision of the Goodluck Jonathan administration to set up 30 green field refineries in the country.

Shortly thereafter, the policy was jettisoned due to pressure from the cabal of local fuel importers. In 2013, the Jonathan administration secured a loan of $1.6 billion for the maintenance of the country’s four refineries. At the end of the repairs the refineries could only refine about 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day instead of 445,000 barrels earmarked for domestic consumption.

The Buhari administration has also spent millions of dollars for the so called turn around maintenance of the refineries. Barely a month ago, Dr. Kachikwu had announced that fuel subsidy had been removed through his ingenuity. In celebrating the “success” recorded by him in the management of the petroleum industry he disclosed that Nigeria was saving $1 billion in subsidy removal and $1 billion in fuel importation. He also stated that “for the first time, our refineries are ready to work now. Crude has been pumped from Brass to Port Harcourt.

Pipeline is being used for the first time in 10 years for the first time in six years. For the first time we are able to pump to Ilorin, we have not done that in 10 years.” (Nigerian Tribune, March 16, 2016). Curiously, Dr. Kachikwu’s “giant strides” in the petroleum industry appear to have collapsed completely before our very eyes!

Hence, without any public debate or consultation with relevant stakeholders whatsoever the federal government took the Nigerian people by surprise yesterday when it decided to increase the pump price of petrol from N86.50k to N145 per litre. Not too long ago, the federal government had supported the imposition of higher tariffs paid on epileptic supply of electricity by consumers.

In sentencing the Nigerian people to excruciating economic agony the Ministry of Power defied a court order which had restrained the government from giving effect to the proposed electricity tariff. In the same vein, the decision to increase the price of petrol is also illegal and contemptuous. In the case of Bamidele Aturu versus Attorney-General of the Federation (unreported suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/591/2009) the Federal High Court declared illegal and unconstitutional the policy decision of the federal government to deregulate the downstream sector of the petroleum industry contrary to the combined effect of the provisions of the Price Control Act and the Petroleum Act.

In total defiance of the said order of the federal high court the federal government has deregulated the downstream sector of the petroleum industry. In justifying the illegal policy, Dr. Kachikwu claimed that “PPPRA has informed me that it will be announcing a new price band effective today, 11th May, 2016 and that the new price for PMS will not be above N145 per litre.”

Since the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) which is statutorily empowered to recommend the price of petroleum products has not been reconstituted the unilateral decision of the Executive Secretary of the body to fix the pump price at N145 per litre is ultra vires and illegal in every material particular. In view of the illegality, insensitivity and immorality of the price increase the federal government should cancel it, revert to the status quo and consult widely with all relevant stakeholders in the society.

However, due to the ongoing fuel crisis in the country the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR) recently invited fresh bids for the setting up modular refineries. At the end of the screening exercise sometime in March this year the DPR announced that it had awarded 22 licences for modular refineries with combined capacities to refine 1.429 million barrels of crude oil per day. If the policy is genuinely pursued the construction of the refineries ought to be completed within the 9-12 months. If such refineries are established in the country the importation of fuel and the fraud associated with it will stop. In the interim, instead of importing oil from Europe and the United States the NNPC should refine crude oil for domestic consumption in neighbouring countries which have functional refineries. After all, Nigeria refines 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day in Cote d’ivoire which is not an oil producing nation.

If subsidy had been removed over a month ago and the country has been saving $2 billion (from fuel importation and subsidy removal) while the refineries are now working at full capacity Dr. Kachikwu should tell Nigerians the justification for the new removal of fuel subsidy announced by him yesterday. The cost elements that make up the N145 are provocative. If the total landing cost of a litre and other charges are fixed at N138 what is the basis of fixing the price at N145? For goodness sake, why should motorists be made to pay NPA/NIMASA charges, demurrage within and without /storage/ bridging charges etc?

At this stage President Buhari ought to prevent neo-liberal ideologues from hijacking the administration for the purpose of punishing the Nigerian people for the looting of the treasury and mismanagement of the national economy. Contrary to the position of the parasitic ruling class that prices of goods and services be fixed by market forces the federal government has a legal obligation to protect the people from exploitation. For instance, the virtual collapse of electricity supply has forced many corporate bodies and individuals to invest heavily in generators and diesel throughout the country. Although the price of diesel has crashed all over the world it has continued to increase in Nigeria due to manipulation. The federal government should, as a matter of urgency, abolish the monopoly in the importation and sale of diesel. There is no justification for the monopolistic control of goods and services under a free market economy!
