Rotimi Amaechi Testifies On The Goodness Of God

The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has urged Nigerians in his political circle to rededicate themselves and restore their commitment to God ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Mr. Amaechi spoke while testifying of his ‘miraculous’ emergence as Governor of Rivers State in 2007 during a special thanksgiving service to mark the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court judgement that declared him Governor of Rivers State, held at the Abundant Life Evangelical Mission (ALEM) in Port Harcourt, Sunday.
The former Rivers governor is a key member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
With former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent defection from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, some members of the opposition PDP have urged Mr. Amaechi to also return to their fold.
Mr. Amaechi re-lived his ordeal in 2007 and how God showed up for him when all odds were against him.
“The truth is that we believed God. Some who didn’t believe left us just as they are leaving now. God told me that what he will do in Rivers State will tingle the ears, and I believed. We were so broke, we could not pay legal fees or children’s school fees. My wife prayed every day and night. I was fasting and praying for 3 months. I told God ‘I have a friend who has money, please make him remember me.’ I called my friend and he told me he has been looking for me. I told him I was in Ghana and he asked for my account… He sent me Two hundred million naira. This is just to tell you that I believed God and he answered me,” Mr. Amaechi said.
He wondered why many of his friends and political associates whom he helped one way or the other have turned on him. But he said that it is God’s way of creating a vacuum for the youths to take charge.
He also advised the youth to be of help to people around them when they are in positions of power.
“We must all go back to God in faith and prayers. Those who want to leave can go. I have come to understand that God passes us through these challenges to prove himself. Now that they have left, for me, this is an opportunity for the youths. It is your turn. You must ensure that we get to power for you to fill the vacuum left.
“I have sometimes asked God, ‘why do you use me to bless people and after blessing them, they run away.’ Count how many people in Rivers State politics today that I did not help somehow. I don’t want to take the glory away from God. So for those who left, may God bless them.
“When you get your own appointment, also put somebody. Allow God to use you and leave the rest all up to him,” Mr. Amaechi advised.
On the 2019 elections, he continued, “if we don’t pray, 2019 will be very far from us. If we don’t win 2019, it would be your fault, not anybody else. We go to God because he answers. We pray, then go home and work. Back then, even in my father’s house in the village there was a prayer team…”
During his sermon, General Overseer of ALEM, Eugene Ogu, recalled the travails of Mr. Amaechi in 2007, how he cried at the altar and how God used him to make a statement in Rivers State.
He said, “Making a man who did not participate in elections governor is one act of God that can not be erased in the history of Rivers State. God is in charge of this state, that is why the conspiracy of evil ones cannot stand.
Apostle Ogu admonished the congregation to do good and avoid evil communications, because “what you sow, you shall reap. If you are paid to kill people, somebody will kill you without collecting money. If you use your pen to lie against people, if you blackmail people, one day somebody will ‘blackpaint’ you.”

 Bode George  is a member of PDP Board of Trustee, who  announced his exit from PDP's chairmanship tussle during a conference in Abuja on Friday, he said the South West is already cheated with the entrants of aspirants from the South-South.
Bode said he stands with the micro-zoning principal of the party, which has been jettisoned.

George also said that, Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State abused the Yoruba people on a national Television when he said the South West has never contributed anything meaningful to the success of the PDP.
He said Governor Wike must tender an unreserved apology to the Yoruba people for his unguarded utterances against the Yoruba race.
I listened to my younger brother and I see it as an insult. I consider it  an insult.

In Bode's words “I entered the contest on the micro-zoning principle, which has been thrashed by little men who have compromised. It appears that the PDP is bent on self-destruction.

George said while briefing newsmen at his campaign office in Abuja.

Corruption more difficult to fight than insurgency — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says his government has found corruption more difficult to fight than insecurity.
Mr. Buhari spoke at a town hall meeting in Kano on the final day of his two-day visit to the state.
“The power of the corrupt Nigerians is so enormous but we are determined to deal with the situation headlong. This is as been adjudged by what is happening today on ground,” he said.
Responding to comments made at the town hall meeting, he said the democratic environment has made the fight against corruption even more difficult because of the power of corrupt Nigerians.
“As Head of State I arrested some corrupt politicians. But shortly after I was arrested after my government been truncated, all the houses that I confiscated were returned back to the owners,”
He said that was why in the current fight against corruption, “after confiscating properties from the corrupt Nigerians, we ordered that they should be sold and the money be deposited at the treasury.
“To show our seriousness in this fight today, among those being investigated was a high court judge whose house was searched and several foreign currencies were found and some international passports.”
President Buhari said the fight against corruption requires zeal, courage and full determination to succeed, saying his government has all these attributes to achieve the success.
On the war against insurgency, he said the success so far recorded is a victory for the entire nation, adding that already, the fight was tilting towards final victory
Let me say, while linking the war against insurgency vis a vis the issue of smuggling as being raised, we have a duty to keep sound relationship with our neighbours, a reason why I went to Chad and Cameroon immediately after assuming office.”
But in spite of continued smuggling, he said the ban on the importation of rice had been achieved by 90 per cent and that Nigerian farmers are the greatest beneficiaries of the ban.

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Kano on Wednesday for a two-day official visit to the state.
Mr. Buhari was received at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, members of the State Executive Council, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, traditional rulers as well as politicians, among others.
A mammoth crowd was also at the airport and along the major streets in the metropolis, giving the president a rousing welcome.
The president is expected to inaugurate a number of projects executed by the Ganduje administration during the visit.
Among the projects are the ultra-modern Specialist Hospital, Giginyu, named after him; a Paediatric Hospital located on Zoo Road, Kano; and the underpass bridge at Madobi/Panshekara Junction.
On the second day, the President will inspect a rice mill, Fullmark Rice Mill Company at Kwanar Gunduwawa, and Gezawa Oil Mill, the largest oil mill in Africa at Tokarawa Industrial Estate both on Hadeja Road.
Mr. Buhari is also expected to meet with Ulamas and hold an interactive session with community leaders and politicians before returning to Abuja.
As part of his visit, the president on Wednesday afternoon visited the Kurmawa Central Prison in Kano where he freed 500 prisoners.
Mr. Buhari said while granting the amnesty to the prisoners that it was part of his general prison decongestion exercise in the country; and to allow those inmates with minor cases who have stayed long in prison to go home.
Scores of journalists covering the president’s visit were prevented from having access to the prison by the president’s security detail.
Before the visit to the prison, the president visited the Kano emir at his palace.
“I am overwhelmed by the sea of people I see,” Mr. Buhari said of the mammoth crowd that came to welcome him. “And by what I see today, if elections are contested I will no doubt win it.”
Speaking further, Mr. Buhari said, “I know Kano people are aware of the tremendous job we did on security and agriculture.”
He said he was at the emir’s palace because the emirate council has been playing tremendous roles in his government’s success.
He explained that the stability of the north and Nigeria is paramount and he is determined to make Nigeria a peaceful country.
Speaking on his actions while he was military Head of State, Mr. Buhari said, “I did so with a lot of youthful exuberance. And myself I was arrested and detained for years.”

Oyo PDP Exco endorses Rashidi Ladoja for national chairmanship

 

The Oyo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday endorsed a former governor of the state, Sen. Rashidi Ladoja, as its choice among those jostling for the seat of the National Chairman at the party’s national convention slated for Saturday.
The state chairman of the party, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, announced the endorsement and adoption after a show of hand vote, during a meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Molete, Ibadan, on Tuesday.
But another aspirant, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, said the endorsement carries no weight because he had also been endorsed by the same State Executive nine months ago.
To him, the endorsement was a mere recognition of aspirants’ move to contest the election.

Mustapha said: “On behalf of Oyo PDP, we must vote for Sen.  Ladoja come December 9. The Southwest is the rightful zone to have the chairman of our great party.
“The Southeast and the Southsouth have produced the chairmen before now and that is why it is our turn to have the national chairman.
Speaking earlier, Ladoja assured members of the party that if given the opportunity to serve, he would return the culture and tradition put in place by the founding members of the party.
Ladoja, who has been a Board of Trustees (BOT) member of the party, promised “never to compromise on things that are not right and are not in the constitution of the party.”
“I will do things the way they should be done and everybody will be happy. That was how our founding fathers were moving the party forward.”
He argued that it would be best to fortify the defence for the PDP in the South-West where it only boasts of a governor with the position of the national chairman so as to make the entire southern part of the country a home for the party.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said defeating President Muhammadu Buhari will be a cakewalk for him if the president runs against him in 2019.

Mr. Abubakar said Mr. Buhari has become politically weak after squandering the goodwill Nigerians accorded him during the 2015 elections.

“I will definitely beat him this time. He has wasted a lot of his massive goodwill,” Mr. Abubakar said.

The former vice-president was interviewed by Dele Momodu for his column which was published Saturday in The Boss Newspaper he publishes.

He said many associates of Mr. Buhari are furious, but they are silent about their disapproval of the president, and are waiting for the right time to strike back.

“A lot of people are disgruntled but keeping quiet and lying low,” Mr. Abubakar said. “Our youths are suffering terribly and now they are being sold into slavery.”

“Everyone knows my track record of inviting and attracting a good team and giving them the opportunity to work professionally. Nigerians are tired of leaders who cannot think big and work big,” he added.

Mr. Abubakar said he would be ready from day one should Nigerians elect him president in 2019.

Mr. Abubakar, vice-president from 1999-2007, dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress last week Friday, citing alleged failure by the Buhari administration to improve the quality of life in the country and neglect of the youth in federal cabinet appointment.

His political allies have indicated that Mr. Abubakar was on his way to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, which has opened its doors to him.

The national spokesperson for the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, countered Mr. Abubakar’s assertion, saying Mr. Buhari would handily beat the former president should he stand for re-election.

I believe that the reasons Nigerians voted for President Buhari in 2015 are still pertinent. They voted President Buhari because they needed a leader who has integrity, strong on corruption and capable of defeating Boko Haram.

“If he stands for election in 2019, we believe Nigerians would still vote for him,” Mr. Abdullahi told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone Saturday afternoon.

President Buhari has not yet declared his intention to seek re-election although his recent actions and comments have strongly suggested he will.

Jonathan let corruption thrive, but was not power hungry – Saraki

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Thursday said he believes ex-President Goodluck Jonathan let corruption thrive during his administration, but was not a power hungry individual.
Mr. Saraki also said he believes the fuel subsidy scam under the former president was the largest single case of corruption in the history of Nigeria.
He said almost N1.3 trillion was stolen through the scam which he witnessed as a senator.
According to Mr. Saraki, he brought the fraud to the attention of the former president who he said lightly waved it aside by saying “You know, oil business is oily.”
Mr. Saraki was speaking at the book launch of a former Minister of Youths and Sports Development under the Jonathan administration, Bolaji Abdullahi, who is now the spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
The event took place at the Yar’Adua Centre in the Central Business District of Abuja.
The book titled “On a Platter of Gold” was written on how Mr. Jonathan became president of Nigeria in 2011 but lost the office at the 2015 general election.
It detailed how Mr. Jonathan rose from being a university lecturer to becoming vice president under the late President Umar Yar’ Adua and then President of Africa’s largest democracy, in less than a decade.
“Most astonishingly is the fact that he won with the highest majority vote ever recorded in the nation’s history,” Mr. Abdullahi said, referring to the 2011 presidential election won by Mr. Jonathan.
In his address to the gathering at the public presentation of the book, Mr. Saraki observed that Mr. Jonathan was not ready for power.
He, however, said the former president was not a man desperate for power despite the fact that power came to him without being prepared for it.
“I think it is us Nigerians that produce the kind of leaders we get. No matter what you say about him, I don’t think he was someone who was desperate for power.
“He was not someone that was prepared for leadership. Yes, by misfortune or fortune I keep on saying, we all know the right things but we don’t do it. We find ourselves sometimes blaming individuals, blaming others than ourselves,” Mr. Saraki said.
“I like to share one or two things that will probably summarize the former President Jonathan.
“I remember when I was then Senator and I came across this issue of fuel subsidy and the way the country was losing close to about N1.3 trillion. In the history of this country, I don’t think of any singular kind of level of corruption as huge as that. I had a motion already I wanted to present on the floor of the Senate.
“I felt as a member of the ruling party at that time, it was only proper I discussed it with the President (first), maybe some action could be taken so that I would step down the motion.
“I booked an appointment to see Mr. President. I went with my paper. I started with the background of how people bring in petroleum products. I said ‘Mr. President, in the past people used to get award letters from NNPC to bring in PMS, DPK, and make 10, 20 per cent profit.
“I said Sir, they’ve taken it to another level now. They get an order to bring in products, they don’t want to make 10, 20 per cent anymore.
“They will get an offer to bring in a cargo of 20,000 litres; they will bring in 5,000 to be stamped for 20,000 and instead of making 10 per cent, they make ten times the amount.

“I was telling the President, thinking the President would get very agitated. (But) He said: ‘Senator Saraki, you know this oil business is very oily.’
“I was stunned and taken aback!
“But in a way, that was Jonathan. In a sad way, that was who he is.
“And if you look at the second encounter I will recollect, it was the day I decided I was going to contest to be President. I felt that I didn’t want Jonathan to hear it as news, I booked an appointment to go and see him.
“I didn’t know what I was thinking that day. I went to the Villa. He said: ‘Come in, come in, how can I help you?’
“I looked at the President of a third world country and said ‘Mr. President, I came to tell you that I am going to be contesting for your seat.’
“Jonathan looked at me and said: ‘Oh, okay, good luck, good luck.’
“If it were any other person, maybe I would not have left the Villa! But that again sums up Goodluck Jonathan.
“I think it is us Nigerians that produce the kind of leaders we get. No matter what you say about him, I don’t think he was someone who was desperate for power.

Gov Amosun:Non Indigenes Won't Succeed Me

Non-indigenes won’t succeed me, says Amosun

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has said that he will not allow a non-indigene to succeed him in 2019.

He said this on Wednesday while addressing elders from Ogun West Senatorial District during a meeting with him at his Oke-Mosan office in Abeokuta.

The elders said they had come to dissociate themselves from a reported endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola as the consensus candidate by the Ogun West Consultative Forum.

The governor, who spoke in Yoruba, reaffirmed his earlier stand to support a candidate from the senatorial district.

He, however, insisted that only a ‘son of the soil’ and not a stranger or a non-indigene would take over from him.

The governor appealed to the elders not to see the other two senatorial districts, Ogun East and Ogun Central, as enemies, adding that they needed to court and lobby them, in order to realise Ogun West candidacy dream for 2019  under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

He said, “It’s a covenant between me and my God, I will be handing over to someone from Ogun West but other senatorial districts are also qualify to contest.

“But we should not see them as enemies. It should not appear that we are taking anyone for granted, our people in Ogun East Senatorial District can come out to contest.

“In Ogun Central, we have agreed, but if anybody comes out from the central, I will confront him frontally.

“We will be tactical and strategic but we should not pay attention to those that are not necessary. I am free to take my position just like every other person.

“I am not God, we are human but where we are today, I am supporting people from Ogun West, it will be an insult to us in this state when we have sons and daughters, not  ‘atohunrinwa’ (stranger or non-indigene) will come, they will ruin Ogun State, if we allow it.”Source - punch

Ahead of 2019 elections,Pres.Buhari Avoids Nepotism

President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated a committee to audit the assets recovered by government agencies.

The committee, which has Olufemi Lijadu, Gloria Bibigha and  Mohammed Nami as members, is expected to audit all recoveries from the beginning of this administration until April 10, 2017.

The committee has been given four weeks to submit its report.

Speaking at the inauguration which held at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday, the president sought the cooperation of banks and ministries, departments and agencies.

He said the gains of the anti-corruption campaign of his administration were enormous, warning that his administration would not allow diversion of funds.

He said the recovered funds to be deposited in designated accounts and be managed transparently.

Get ready! Africa Beauty Queen International Pageant is about to be the
next big thing in the Nigerian entertainment industry.


The unveiling party, which took place at the Lekki Coliseum in Lagos on
Saturday, November 18, 2017, was hosted by comedian, Ushbebe, and Big
Brother Naija star, Uriel.


Nollywood stars including Rachel Oniga, Tony Umez, Charles "Igwe Tupac
Okocha and Eucharia Anunobi were present at the event which had many
aspiring models in attendance.


The audience sang, roared, screamed, and also got on their feet when Mavin
Records star, Dr. Sid, came on stage to perform some of his biggest songs
including “Kabiyesi”, “Something About You”, and “Pop Something.” Other
artistes that performed on the night were Em-Storm, Envy and Tossy Young.


Comedian, Akpororo, also thrilled the audience with funny jokes that were
smarter than expected, as did his colleagues, MC Shakara and Ushbebe.


Africa Beauty Queen International Pageant is organised by Roses and Rubies
International, owned by ex-beauty queen, Precious Jefferson Ogarekpe aka
Lady Boss.


Precious won the prestigious crown for “Miss Globe Nigeria 2016” which held
in Lagos, Nigeria. She went on to represent Nigeria in Albania at “The Miss
Globe World finals” that same year.


Her passion for modeling and entertainment gave birth to the “Africa Beauty
Queen International Pageant”, which is projected to showcase the beauty of
African women to the world through culture and tourism.

Government, this year’s edition is slated to hold at the Teslim Balogun
Stadium Surulere, Lagos on the 17th December, 2017 at 12noon.



The choice of the stadium which has the capacity of over 25,000 people as
the venue for a rapper's concert is undoubtedly another first as concerts
go in Lagos.



With the unbelievable success of the three previous editions, *Olamide Live
in Concert I: The Beast Unleased *ranked the biggest concert of 2014, *Olamide
live in concert II: Beast Move *a sold-out show at Eko Convention Centre
and *Olamide live in Concert III Beast Mode, *which was arguably the most
successful concert of 2016 with the Governor of Lagos State, Mr *Akinwunmi
Ambode* and his wife, *Oba Saheed Elegushi*, Senator *Dino Melaye* and many
other dignitaries in attendance.

*ABOUT OLAMIDE*


Olamide is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist signed to his record label
YBNL. Born Olamide Adedeji in Bariga Lagos State, he records mostly in
Yoruba.


Olamide’s love for rap music began in his primary school days as he began
to nurture it. In 2000, he decided to pursue a career in music. After a few
years bubbling underground and working to get his music heard, Olamide
worked with ID Cabasa's Coded Tunes record to release his debut single ‘Eni
Duro’. In 2010, he performed at The Hip Hop World Awards and released his
debut studio album in 2011 titled ‘Rapsodi’.


The following year, he started his own record label ‘YBNL Nation’ and
released his second album ‘YBNL’ in November 2012 under his label imprint
YBNL Nation. The album had hit singles ‘First of All’, ‘Voice of the
Streets’, ‘Stupid Love’, and ‘Ilefo Illuminati’. His record label housed
top acts such as Lil Kesh, AdekunleGold, and Viktoh.


His third studio album ‘Baddest Guy Ever Liveth’ was released in 2013. The
album had hit singles "Durosoke" and "Yemi My Lover". Olamide released his
fourth album titled ‘Street OT’ in late 2014. Preceded by the singles
"Story ForThe Gods" and "Goons Mi", Street OT featured guest appearances
from notable acts including Pasuma, Lil Kesh, Chinko Ekun, Phyno, Don
Jazzy, and Reminisce with studio productions from Pheelz, B-Banks and Young
John.


In 2013, he signed a deal with Guinness Nigeria and became an ambassador
for Etisalat the following month; a deal he extended in 2015. He released a
collaborative album with hip hop artist and producer, Phyno titled “2
Kings” in early 2015, and he followed up with a solo album in the same year.


He released a solo album titled ‘Eyan Mayweather’ was released late
November 2015. The album was preceded by four hit singles; "Bobo", "Matters
Arising", "Lagos Boys" and "Melo Melo". Olamide announced an endorsement
deal with betting company SureBet 247 in 2014. His 6th studio album ‘THE
GLORY’ was released in 2016. It was the No 1 selling album on Billboard’s
world album chart and it made him the first and only Nigerian rapper in
history to have released 6 studio albums and one collaborative album in six
(6) years.


Olamide has sold-out international concerts in London, Liverpool,
Birmingham, Canada, Manchester, Dublin, Cyprus, Malaysia, Dubai,
SouthAfrica , as well as a Five city USA tour in 2016. Olamide is the first
and only Nigerian rapper to have an independent sold out concert at the Eko
Hotel Convention Centre Lagos; one of the biggest event venues in Nigeria.
This he achieved in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively with his concerts;
OLIC1, OLIC2 and OLIC3 (OLAMIDE LIVE IN CONCERT).


His success in the entertainment industry has earned him several
nominations and awards including Best Indigenous Artist, Nigeria
Entertainment Award (NEA), Best Rap Album and Album Of The Year, Headies

Son Of Former PDP Chairman Stabbed To Death Many Times By His Wife Over Alleged Infidelity Two Years After Wedding

Bilyamin Muhammed Bello, the son of a former PDP chairman, Haliru Bello, died yesterday November 19th after he was stabbed by his wife, Maryam Sanda, at their Maitama, Abuja residence.

Maryam, the daughter of former Aso Savings boss, Hajia Maimuna Aliyu, stabbed Bilyamin three times in the back; and severally on his private parts during an altercation over his alleged infidelity.

She claimed she saw a love message from another woman on his phone.

After stabbing him, she drove him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He will be buried today according to Islamic rites.

The Janaiza is after Zuhr prayer at National Mosque, Abuja.

The couple got married in October 2015 with a highly publicised  grand wedding.

They are blessed  with  a child.

Ex President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, said, yesterday, that former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, lied when she alleged being sacked by him because she refused to back down from the probe of one of the masterminds of fuel subsidy scam.
Waziri had told newsmen in an interview in Lagos, last weekend, that the former President ordered her sack for refusing to stop the investigation of one of those involved in subsidy scam.

She also said her removal then “has now helped her not to be associated with the alleged grand corruption that took place under Jonathan’s administration.

I’m only glad that those things didn’t happen under my watch as the EFCC chairman because it would have been too traumatic for me. “That is why, if I see President Jonathan today, I will kneel down to thank him for the honor, by removing me as the EFCC chairman at the time he did.

Jonathan in his Twitter handle @GEJonathan, yesterday, challenged the former EFCC boss, saying she was lying. He said: “If Farida is not telling lies, she should mention the person or company she was investigating and she was stopped. “Let the EFCC investigate; crime has no statute bar. If she can’t, then she was simply hired to attack me.”

CBA FOUNDATION ORGANISES A CHARITY WALK TAGGED WALK4HOPE

CBA Foundation, a Lagos-based Not for Profit organization, has concluded plans to organize a 7,500 STEPS walk tagged Walk4Hope in the Lekki axis of Lagos on Saturday, November 18, 2017.  The charity walk which is the highlight of a series of activities embarked upon by the organization since January 2017  is aimed at raising funds for the protection and support of underprivileged widows and their vulnerable children. Proceeds from this event will go directly to support programs that directly benefit the underprivileged widows and their children.

The Foundation has also identified the five core areas that will benefit from the proceeds of the event. These include areas on Women empowerment/capacity building, health, nutrition, quality basic education and self-employment scheme. Over 100 persons from various walks of life are expected to participate in this walk. This year the Nigeria Youth Service Corps  (NYSC)

According to the Chairman  of the Foundation, Adesina Olufemi Adegunle PhD, he believes that nurturing and caring for the underprivileged are the cornerstones of human progress. “CBA Foundation was created with the sole purpose of working with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, dehumanization, injustice, disease and discrimination placed on a widow and her child’s path”. He further stressed that the foundation launched the #CareIsAction campaign in recognition of the fact that care without action is not care at all.

“Every step counts! Every step you take brings us closer to offering hope to underprivileged widows and their children.

The founder, Mrs Chinwe Bode-Akinwande (CBA)  added that CBA Foundation is dedicated to promoting the protection of widows primarily and their vulnerable children in Nigeria, to promote immediate and lasting hope, confidence and courage in their lives.

Registration for the walk is open to all and will start at 7.00am with aerobics  while the walk kicks off at 7.20am at the Maruwa Bustop (second roundabout, Lekki, Lagos)

 Many widows are denied their rights, subjected to abuse and evilom their homes because they lost their husband, no form of inherit of property or land. According to UN Women during the last International widows day – June 23, 2014 estimated 115 million widows currently live in poverty, and 81 million have suffered physical abuse, some from members of their own family. It has been observed by various studies that widowhood is an issue that affects more women than men.

Widows are more than victims; they are mothers, caregivers and heads of households. Widows of all ages and their children should be treated as full and equal citizens and their rights should be protected.

UN Women advocates for the empowerment of widows everywhere and supports this in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Part of our broader work in CBA Foundation is to set out to work in partnership with widows’ organizations so widows can live free of stigma and discrimination, with dignity, rights ad economic independence, and have a voice in decisions that affect their lives in the household and the public sphere.

Update:Ambode has ordered demolition of my house – APC legal adviser, Muiz Banire

Lagos State Government has given the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Muiz Adeyemi Banire, 24 hours notice to produce the planning permit of a house in which his mother, Alhaja Sarat Banire, is staying or face demolition.

Banire raised the alarm in a statement today, accusing Governor Akinwumi Ambode of vendetta.

APC's Legal Adviser, said he got the news in Saudi Arabia, where he is on lesser hajj, explained that the building, located at 24A, Remi Fani Kayode Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, was leased to him by the Federal Government and that he never carried out any structural work on it.

He said having failed to unseat him as the National Legal Adviser of the APC, Ambode  now targets his properties.

The statement, titled: ‘Lagos State Government and Politics of Vendetta’ reads in full:

“Distinguished gentlemen of the Press, it has become imperative for me to urgently issue this press statement to notify all men and women of good conscience on the activities of the current government in Lagos State that is hell-bent on persecuting my family for no reason besides that I insisted on the need to observe the rule of law.


“Notice came to me on wednesday, the 14th day of November, 2017 at about 6 pm while on lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia about a notice of contravention purportedly served on the residence of my 90-year old mother, Alhaja Sarat Banire, at her 24A, Remi Fani Kayode Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos by the agents of Lagos State Government from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development demanding within 24 hours, proof of planning permit obtained before the building was constructed. The contravention notice further threatened demolition of my mother’s two-bedroom bungalow within 48 hours of the notice.

“It behooves me to put the record straight. My siblings and I acquired a lease of the property known as 24A, Remi Fani-Kayode Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos from the Federal Government to serve as residence for my aged mother. The lease covered the 2-bedroom bungalow already on the land together with a boys’ quarter. I did not have any reason to rebuild the house or do any further construction as the place was fit for the purpose for which it was acquired on lease.

“I know that since the creation of the lease, my mother has been living in the said 2-bedroom bungalow without adding a block to the property by way of additional construction, development or alteration save minor renovation like painting. The reasons why we could not develop the property to make it more befitting is that we are still awaiting federal consent to the lease created in my mother’s favour.

“Surprisingly on the 14th day of November, the contravention notice purportedly served by government requires that a building permit must be produced for an old building the existence of which predated the lease by which my mother became the occupier of the premises. The property belongs to the Federal Government of Nigeria who granted a lease to my mother and save for minor renovations to make it habitable, no single efforts at construction or reconstruction has been made by any of us. How on earth could it be heard that a tenant is required to produce a building permit of a property that belongs to her landlord within 24 hours otherwise she risked demolition of the building?


“I had earlier said that the Lagos State government, under the governorship of Akinwunmi Ambode is out on a vendetta and having failed to get me removed as the National Legal Adviser of All Progressives Congress, has targeted my supporters for persecution. The more recent is the invasion and sealing up of the residence of Honourable Funmilayo Tejuoso without a court order and in flagrant disregard to pending proceedings of the Lagos State High Court in a suit instituted by Honourable Tejuoso’s company and the Lagos State Government.

“I had been expecting that, since I was the ultimate target having received several messages threatening my family members and me, very soon my properties shall become objects of demolition by the vindictive government that is out to wage war against real and perceived enemies. I am, therefore, not surprised to see that my aged mother’s residence is under attack.

“However, certain points become quite pertinent:

“1. it has never been heard that a tenant of a property shall be required to produce the building permit by which the property leased to him was constructed;

“2. what urgency requires that the occupier of a premises be given just 24 hours to produce a building permit of which he/she could not have been in possession?;

“3. what urgency requires that the building be demolished within 48 hours of issuing a contravention notice if not vendetta?

“4. It is clear that Minister’s Consent to the lease in accordance with the law is still under processing with the Office of the Minister for Power, Works and Housing in Abuja and same has not come out which prevents the building from being developed;

“5. The building is not dilapidated and neither does it constitute danger to any life or property. What exactly brought this building within the context of demolition if not that it is linked to Muiz Banire?

“I want to sound this note of caution to the Lagos State Government that I am not daunted by all these acts of terrorism which it has embarked upon in recent times. My call for internal democracy in All Progressives Congress, prevalence of rule of law and resistance to imposition came out of personal conviction to serve my creator in all ramifications and at every opportunity.

“All necessary reactions to the notice have been escalated to both the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government as I have caused my lawyers to respond to the notice appropriately. I have no doubt that this latest Gestapo tactic is in furtherance of the political victimization and oppression raging against me and my associates. I am ready for the sacrifice even if I have to in the process sleep on the street of Lagos.

“Rule of law and institution building remain sacrosanct to me. As far as God continues to protect my life, I will remain resolute on it. As the political repression continues, I urge all my followers and supporters to be calm. If God says that my ailing mother at the age of 90 will die in the hands of Governor Ambode, I give God the glory. This is just my immediate reaction pending my arrival when I shall address the press comprehensively.”
